Why Destination Data Matters
Post-school destination data is the ultimate measure of whether career pathway programs are working.
state average → bachelor degree
Nearly half of Victorian Year 12 completers go straight to university. But in regional areas, this drops to 36%. Schools should evaluate whether their students are being supported into the right pathways — not just the default one.
into VET or apprenticeships
Combined VET and apprenticeship uptake is 22.7% state-wide but 34.3% in regional Victoria. With 140,000 new VET-level workers needed, schools promoting vocational pathways are aligning with real demand.
looking for work
Nearly 1 in 17 Year 12 completers are looking for work six months after leaving school. Schools with strong career education and employer partnerships tend to have lower rates — destination data proves it.
How This Tool Works
Understanding the data and methodology.
On Track Survey Benchmarks
Benchmarks come from the Victorian On Track Survey, which contacts all Year 12 completers approximately 6 months after leaving school. Aggregate data is published by the Department of Education.
Three Comparison Points
Compare against state-wide averages, metro averages (for Melbourne schools), or regional averages (for schools outside Melbourne). Each tells a different story about your school’s performance.
Colour-Coded Variance
Green means your school outperforms the benchmark on positive outcomes (education, employment) or is below benchmark on negative outcomes (seeking work, NEET). Red means the opposite. Grey means the difference is within 2 percentage points.
